Rice Museum

The founding of the Rice Museum was aimed at honouring rice farming and making the region’s tradition known.

In this cultural space you can step back in time and better understand the importance of this cereal in the history of Herdade da Comporta.

The facilities are located in an old rice husking factory dating back to 1952, when husking began in Comporta. The creation of this museum is justified by scientific, social, cultural, economic and strategic reasons in relation to the region’s future development prospects.

The Rice Museum is an outstanding cultural facility that enshrines rice growing as both a central theme in interpreting the region’s identity and as a factor in positive cultural dynamics for local societies.

Visits to the Rice Museum are by appointment only and only for groups of more than 10 people.
It is possible to book joint visits to the Rice Museum and the Herdade da Comporta winery.
